Skyrim fetched $600 at the Heritage Auctions auction over the weekend. An original copy of Super Mario 64sold for $1.5 million, while other stars of the auction were Xbox 360 boxes from Skyrim and Red Dead Redemption ($384).
Following the auction on July 11, some people were skeptical. It was noted that a physical copy of a game that has now appeared on almost any platform and can be found very easily (although there are no other examples left) goes for as much as $600.
Why did the Skyrim copy sell for so much?
Although it was said that buying such a physical copy for $600 may have been made by a “fan who really loves Elder Scrolls,” the website Kotaku contacted Heritage Auctions, the company that held the auction.
The company said the reason the copy of the game went so expensive was because the version of the game that was the subject of the incident scored 9.2 on its website, Watagames. With its near-perfect rating, this 10-year-old copy of Skyrim has managed to find a buyer for a record price.
