We’ve been playing football games for so long that at some point the real games come to us and get the back of the defence. FIFA may be ahead in recent football games, but it has a huge PES history, especially in our country. Especially when it is such a suitable game to modification, the joy of playing with imaginary squads made over PES is still invaluable. The adventure, which was previously called Wining Eleven and was first called ISS (International Superstar Soccer) in 1999 and then PES (Pro Evolution Soccer), continues. PES and WE continue to come out at the same time, while PES continues to live in the western world on the Japanese side of the business.
When we made the list, we started as Wining Eleven 7, PES 3. Because PES 1 (ISS) and PES 2 did not feature football stars on the cover. If you’re ready, let’s take a fun trip through both football history and game history.
PES 3 – Pierluigi Collina
When you think of a cover star, it’s normal for footballers to come to mind right away. But Konami had a much more special name for PES 3 on its cover. Along with Pierluigi Collina, also known as the “lucky referee” in our country, perhaps for the last time a referee appeared on the cover of a football game alone.
PES 4 – Thierry Henry & Francesco Totti & Pierluigi Collina
After PES 3, collina was back on the cover, and now football’s main boys were starting to appear on stage. Roma’s Bandeira, Totti and Arsenal’s big star Thierry Henry and Konami continued to attract players. The matches between Italy of Totti and France with Henry were one of the most enjoyable in the game.
PES 5 – John Terry & Thierry Henry
Chelsea veteran captain John Terry, who has doubled his former popularity after Abramovic, faces Henry in the London Derby in the new game. Although the Chelsea squad looked superior in PES 5, with the Pires-Henry-Ljungberg trio, Arsenal were never a team to be thrown into.
PES 6 – Adriano & John Terry
We came to PES 6, which is my favourite, where it is forbidden to take Inter; every goalkeeper who sees Adriano escapes the ball. With Adriano, who can bend time and space thanks to a shot with 99 Shot Power, we learned to be afraid of cover stars. Although his career is not as bright as the PES 6 performance, this cover has a big part to play in the frequent mention of the name Adriano today.
PES 2008 – Michael Owen & Cristiano Ronaldo
The question of where is PES 7 can come to mind immediately. With the ISS switching to PES in 2001, such confusion occurred because we received the pes;s start date in 2001. Fortunately, in 2008, Konami switched to a clearer system. It was the first and last time we saw Owen on the cover for Newcastle, but a new adventure was beginning for Cristiano Ronaldo.
PES 2009 – Lionel Messi
Pes 2009, when it was a pleasure to get into the goal from the right cross and throw a stylish place at the far post, was undoubtedly Messi who did it best. PES 2008 was the most entertaining football game of its era, with the elimination of the “goal from a corner” error.
PES 2010 Lionel Messi & Fernando Torres
Fernando Torres, a Merseyside Reds fan who was dark enough to write Liverpool’s iconic “You;ll Never Walk Alone” under his armband when he was captain of Atletico Madrid, was making his first appearance on the PES cover with his dream red jersey. With Lionel Messi becoming an increasing phenomenon, the Rising Value of the Premier League, Torres, accompanied him on the cover.
PES 2011 – Lionel Messi
This time, a Messi would not have been enough for Konami, who had put three Messis on the cover, two of them silhouettes. It was undoubtedly Messi’s favourite activity at PES 11 to leave goalkeepers helpless with unstoppable shots while frustrating opponents with series of steals. If you want to win the Champions League, you’d have that legendary Barcelona squad in front of you like an epic boss fight. It’s worth pulling the bus and holding Messi.
PES 2012 – Cristiano Ronaldo
After a four-year hiatus, C. Ronaldo, one of the world’s most popular sports icons, has reappeared on the cover of PES, this time for Real Madrid. Although he has yet to achieve “La Decima”, real madrid’s 10th Champions League victory, Ronaldo was one of the two most iconic aspects of both football and the Champions League. Messi’s subsequent arrival on the PES cover caused great controversy at the time.
PES 2013 – Cristiano Ronaldo
After PES 6, Cristiano Ronaldo again starred in PES 13, the most popular PES game in our country. Ronaldo remained at the top as details of his Real Madrid shirt shifted from gold to purple. Every passing in real Madrid games with Benzema at the forward end was undoubtedly the fearful dream of most players.
PES 2014 – Champions League
This time, pes, which alone carried the Champions League, the stage of the biggest stars rather than the stars of football, had taken a different path. Although the game began to lose power, champions league and Europa League licenses were still a very important factor and Konami was absolutely right to show that.’
PES 2015 – Mario Götze
Mario Götze, who scored the only goal of the 2014 World Cup final, suddenly found himself on the cover of PES. Götze, who arrived at Bayern Munich as a star transfer in the summer of 2013, had some limited play to do, but the Bayern players, who had robben-ribbery on the wings, gave us all a tough time with left-right attacks.
PES 2016 – Neymar
For the first time since Adriano, a Brazilian footballer was appearing on the pes cover. With Santos” sensational debut, neymar, who added a whole new colour to world football, and we were able to make a lot of different moves in the game. The MSN trio of Messi-Neymar-Suarez stood in front of career-loving players as another boss fight.
PES 2017 – Neymar & Messi & Suarez & Rakitic & Pique
Konami maintained good relations with Barcelona, this time bringing both Barça’s shrine, the Camp Nou; and the stars of the team to the cover. Considering the number of Real Madrid fans around the world, it was normal for this move to attract a lot of reaction. As the Konami-Barcelona relationship grew stronger, the Barcelona squad remained the toughest opponent in the game. But I still think the Castolo-Huylens duo were better.
PES 2018 – Luis Suarez
Well, we saw Messi on the cover, we saw Neymar; it was Suarez who played at the far end of the trio. Suarez’s deadly shots, which bit the ball as well as the opponent’s, were evident in the game. Barcelona stormed pes 18 as arch-rivals Real Madrid continued to ravage Europe.
PES 2019 – Philippe Coutinho
One of Barcelona’s biggest real-life omens was philippe Coutinho’s shots from outside the penalty area, which he signed from Liverpool for an astronomical (not what Gokmen Ozdenak said) fee. Coutinho, who we often see in the game, was not an Adriano, but he was very good at getting the ball into the goal.
PES 2020 – Serge Gnabry & Lionel Messi & Miralem Pjanic & Scott McTominay
Konami made a major breakthrough in licensing, crowning deals with Bayern Munich, Manchester United and Juventus, bringing one player from the four teams to the cover. While everyone was waiting for Ronaldo for Juventus, Pjanic, the backbone of the midfield, had the biggest surprise for United’s young star Scott McTominay. McTominay, who expressed his bewildered happiness by saying “it is a great honor to be on the same cover as Messi”, has a very bright career ahead of him..
PES 2021 – Alphonso Davies – Lionel Messi – Cristiano Ronaldo – Marcus Rashford
Konami, which does not release a separate game for 2021, entered 2021 with an update. Last year’s four teams were retained, while non-Messi cover stars were replaced. Canadian left-back Davies, who captivated the world at a young age as an offensive left-back, C. Ronaldo, Juventus’ biggest star; and Rashford, one of United’s fantastical stars, added colour to the update.
It is worth remembering that these covers vary from region to region. For example, in the Japanese versions, it was possible to see the Keisuke Hondaon the covers. With the latest deal, Neymar will now be the new face of PES, including the PES 2021 update. We haven’t seen him on the covers since 2017. Although the number of pes;i boxed players who now release special versions to teams is decreasing, it must feel very nice for a footballer to be on the cover of a game. Fortunately, career-ending events like the Madden curse don’t happen in football games. But it’s worth remembering that Barcelona have not won a Champions League since 2015.
