Retro Games Ltd, the creator of the C64 Mini, has now announced the A500 Mini, a mini console based on the Commodore Amiga 500.
The A500 Mini will be available in early 2022 and costs $140/€130. Compared to the C64 Mini, it’s quite expensive.
The console will include 25 classic Amiga games and you’ll be able to run your own Amiga ROM;s (in adf format) via USB stick, or you can use WHDLoad support.
Along with the A500 Mini will come a two-button mouse using Amiga’s famous tank mouse design and a controller inspired by the Amiga CD32 controller. Of course, its keyboard is not functional as it is in the C64 Mini; They will probably also release a version with a functional keyboard afterwards.
Twelve of the 25 games in the system have been announced, and they’re like this:
- Alien Breed 3D
- Another World
- ATR: All Terrain Racing
- Battle Chess
- Cadaver
- Kick Off 2
- Pinball Dreams
- Simon the Sorcerer
- Speedball 2: Brutal Deluxe
- The Chaos Engine
- Worms: The Director’s Cut
- Zool
Nice choices, but there are so many cult games in Amiga that even if they added 25, 125 games, some would be left out. While the A500 Mini may look good in terms of ease of use, I don’t think it will be much different from Pi-based emulators, so I’d rather keep using the real Amiga 500 🙂 But if you don’t have that possibility, if you don’t want it to take up too much space, you have to deal with pi setup and settings, or it’s obviously going to be a good alternative.
