It is clear that the pandemic has hit the electronics sector seriously, bringing supply shortages in many areas. We also felt the repercussions in the gaming industry; While there were problems in the supply of video cards on the PC front, it was seen that the supply of the next generation console on the console front was far from meeting the demand. According to Xbox boss Phil Spencer, the trouble will continue next year.
Phil Spencer; In an interview with The Wrap, he says the problem with Xbox Series S and X stocks being incomplete in meeting demand cannot be explained solely by the lack of chip stock.
“Treating the incident as just a chip problem would probably be a very limited interpretation. Nowadays, when we talk about putting the parts together to make a console and then putting them up for sale in the requested markets, there are many processes involved, many factors come into play. Unfortunately, I think this problem will continue over the coming months and even next year,” Spencer said.
The chip problem is undeniable, of course, but the other point Spencer points out is important. There have also been serious problems in terms of the global supply chain during the pandemic and it continues to happen. It is very difficult to predict when these problems can be overcome and when we can return to the old days. Spencer seems to have adopted a more cautious view in that respect. I hope we don’t have to spend another year with the negativity of the pandemic.
