Have I ever told you how much I love the Yakuza series? Okay, okay, don’t get mad right now, and put those baseball bats down calmly, please 🙂 The sake of it aside, I see it as a series with its own style, the Yakuza, and therefore I put it in a separate place in my own eyes. We have learned that two important names have left Ryu Ga Gotoku, who gave us this series.
Toshihiro Nagoshi, creator of the Yakuza series, and Daisuke Sato, the producer of the series, announcedtheir separation from Sega and Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio.
“I am leaving SEGA and also from my position as president of Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio. I would like to express my sincerest and deepest gratitude to our followers who have supported the Yakuza series over the years” and say that a new Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio has been born and that they will continue the series from now on. He says he doesn’t know what they’re going to put out there, but he believes the new generation will build new things and present great games on the foundation they’ve built. And as their elders, he made sure to give advice:)
Daisuke Sato also thanks gamers for their support of Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio, then announces his departure from SEGA and says he will now chart a new path for himself. Sato says the studio believes they will not only continue the Yakuza series, but take it further, giving the series new momentum.
Masayoshi Yokoyama, who previously served as producer, will be appointed president in the new term, while producer Hiroyuki Sakamoto and director Ryosuke Horii will now be the main leaders of the team.
Meanwhile, the new game in the series has been confirmed. For now, the game, called Yakuza 8, will continue the story of Yakuza Like a Dragon; its protagonist, Ichiban Kasuga.
