Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier reports exclusively that Take Two Interactive’s 2K Games has cancelled a project hangar 13 has been working on for four years, leaving all the team’s efforts in the trash. The move, titled “The end of the development of an undeced game,” cost 2K Games $53 million.
This project, codenamed Volt, underwent several changes after the initial thought phase. Volt had finally become an open-world sci-fi game with supernatural elements in it, and it was described as “Cthulhu meets Saints Row.”
As Hangar 13 prepares to come up with a completely new IP, they are shocked by this cancellation. Hangar 13 employees at Take-Two were invited to a meeting on the studio’s future on Thursday, so hopefully it doesn’t extend to studio closures.
Hangar 13 developed Mafia III and Mafia: Definitive Edition.
