Xbox boss Phil Spencer said the Game Pass system was sustainable in its current form and would continue to grow after that.
Spencer’s remarks are a response to those who say Game Pass is not a sustainable system. After all, instead of giving $60,70 to games like Starfield, it’s possible to play for free as part of a subscription thanks to Game Pass. However, there are many who argue that without Game Pass, the revenue from the sale of these games would be much higher.
Spencer says that “you probably don’t know how many subscribers we have or how much each subscriber pays,” and says Game Pass is definitely a sustainable system. Indeed, we have seen in some examples that the sales figures of the games included in Game Pass are also high, and since Game Pass subscribers can also buy games at a discount, there are not few players who want to add these games permanently to their library.
Spencer adds that growing Game Pass is part of the Xbox strategy, but that’s not the firm’s only focus. “Game Pass isn’t the only thing growing on Xbox. It is not the only focus of the organization, but it has a highly sustainable structure as an independent product. I know a lot of people think we’re burning money right now for a gold test at the end of the road. It’s not like that at all. Game Pass is currently highly sustainable and continues to grow.”
It’s good to know that Microsoft relies so heavily on Game Pass and will continue to offer players so many new games at a small subscription fee.
