As the debate continues over whether it’s the biggest project ever in the gaming industry or a scam, new records continue to come from Star Citizen. Star Citizen, which was first announced as a Kickstarter project in 2012 and continues to raise money through its official site after the necessary donations have been raised, has surpassed its $400 million donation level.
$800,000 in donations raised in just one day
Nine years after its announcement, Star Citizen is still a long way from its release date. Squadron 42 content of the long-running Alpha game was given a release date for 2016 when it was announced. This date was then moved to 2018, and although we are in 2021, we still have no clear release date. Despite all this delay and the continued development of the game, donations continue unabated.
Star Citizen, which has raised more than $50 million in the last eight months, has also reportedly recently received more than $800,000 in donations in just one day. Chris Roberts finally issued a statement at the end of last year, saying that “we still have a long way to go before we move on to Beta” for the alpha-process game.
Frankly, it’s fair to say that Star Citizen has become a snake that continues to eat itself like Ouroboros. Time will tell us how to handle such a big budget and whether expectations will be met.
