Mathew “Royal2” Florante, who cheated during the Halo Championship Series, was suspended from tournaments until January 28, 2022 after investigations. Royal 2 and its team were banned by a method called Geofiltering, which caused their opponents to experience extreme connectivity problems during the game.
Geofilteringremoves certain servers from the system pool before players match, causing serious delays for players who come across them.
Royal2, which cheated in the tournament, forgot to turn off geofiltering
The incident allegedly occurred during the Halo Infinite North American Qualifying QuarterFinals, which took place from December 1 to December 2, during the final of the Sentinels team of which Royal2 belongs. The opposing team was not able to connect to the tournament match for 4 hours. After reviewing Royal2’s logs, authorities determined that the player used the method between November 26 and December 3.
Tournament officials said sentinels players were given enough time to defend themselves, but data reports from team members could not prove otherwise. Royal2, which was the focus of the incident, acknowledged in a statement that it had disabled some servers and said it had “forgotten to turn it off” before tournament day. Royal2 says it is unaware of what its decision could lead to and apologises to its team and fans.
