Behaviour Interactive finally decided to respond to a four-year complaint and announced that The Cannibal’s masks would be removed with a future update.

The Cannibal was added to the game with the Leatherface DLC in 2017. This character was able to wear their faces as masks by sacrificing the four original heroes of Dead by Deadlight 25 times. One of these heroes, Claudette Morel, is a black character, so the character wearing a black mask is said to be “blackface.”” (blackface) had received a backlash from black actors for allowing him to do it.

“Blackface, also known as blackface and blackface, is a theatrical makeup form used by predominantly non-black artists to represent a caricature of a black person.”

Some publications also showed people wearing this mask harassing black players in the game.

In a statement, the studio said: “Our community members have shared their experiences of players using some of these masks targeting and harassing them. It is very sad to hear these complaints, we strongly condemn this type of behavior. We were disturbed that these mascara were in the game when we knew they were being used to spread hatred. That’s why we’re going to remove The Cannibal’s unlockable masks from the game.”

Of course, this statement also received a reaction from the players on the other side this time, after all, it is impossible to please everyone. However, Eric Bourdages, the character illustrator who created these masks, showed which side he was on, saying “I’m glad the masks will be removed.”
