Microsoft has officially confirmed to The Verge that it has stopped production of Xbox One S consoles.
“We’ve discontinued production of all Xbox One consoles by the end of 2020 to focus on Xbox Series X/S production,” says Cindy Walker, Product Marketing Director for Xbox Console.
We actually knew that xbox one X production was discontinued in July 2020, but Microsoft was still producing Xbox One S. They’re just explaining that they haven’t produced an Xbox One S in the last year.
We recently learned that Sony will continue to produce the PS4 console due to difficulties in PS5 production and has not finished production as planned by the end of 2021. Xbox Series X consoles are also short of stock, but it looks like Microsoft is a little more comfortable with Xbox Series S.
Microsoft’s dual console strategy seems to have succeeded, producing more Xbox Series S’s instead of producing older generation consoles.
