Super Smash, one of the indispensable series of EVO tournaments since 2007, will not take part in the 2022 event.
In a message posted on Twitter, The Evolution Championship Series (EVO) said Nintendo did not want Smash Bros;
“Since 2007, we have witnessed unforgettable Super Smash Bros moments at EVO events. We are all saddened that Nintendo chose not to continue its legacy this year. We hope to celebrate the Super Smash Bros cast with them again in the future,” EVO officials said.
Super Smash Bros.; The first EVO was the 2007 tournament, where Ken Hoang won the Super Smash Bros. Melee tournament.
Nintendo has not released any explanation as to why it withdrew from the tournament, but Nintendo’s collaboration with eSports brand PandaGlobal in November last year may have something to do with it. On March 18, 2021, EVO was acquired by Sony Interactive Entertainment and the Endeavor venture. EVO said sony’s tournament ownership would not affect the activities of games other than PlayStation, but in practice things have turned out differently.
The last time we saw the EVO tournament was in 2019, the 2020 event was cancelled due to the Covid 19 pandemic, and EVO 2021, scheduled for last year, was cancelled under the shadow of accusations of sexual harassment.
