A protocol was signed at the Karacadag Development Agency to promote esports in Diyarbakir.
Governor Munir Karaloglu said at the ceremony that the two ministries are working in 17 esports-related provinces, including Diyarbakir, which has a large young population.
Pointing out that the target audience of esports is young people between the ages of 13 and 22, Karaloglu said, “Esports is one of the concepts that has just entered our lives. Kids can be more knowledgeable about this than we are. However, as administrators, we will provide support in this field, especially in informing, educating, raising awareness of families and giving children a more informed access to the esports platform.”
Karaloglu stated that there are risks of every opportunity, “Esports is an activity area that creates new business opportunities for our young people on the one hand and new risk areas on the other. So on the one hand, we need to teach our young people about the opportunities of this job and on the other hand, how to keep them away from the risks.”
Karaloglu stated that 2 percent of the activities of esports, which is stated to have reached 500 million spectators in the world, took place in Turkey, noting that an ecosystem of 1.5 billion dollars is currently formed in the world and that this size will reach 3 billion in 2023.
“For him, there is no way we can stay out of this. As a state, if we just watch this, we’re out of this area. Our desire is for our parents and young people to be consciously present in this area and for parents to know, understand, not hesitate to approach and support their children.”
Karaloglu stated that they will create an Esports Academy in Sur Youth Center in order to create an infrastructure that can do this job consciously by keeping children away from all risks.
“Our university has also been working on this. Esports clubs have been established in many universities in Turkey. Create an esports club at Dicle University. Hopefully, with this protocol, the issue of esports will be better understood and talked about more in Diyarbakir. I would like to thank everyone who contributed, especially Our Minister of Industry and Technology Mustafa Varank and Our Minister of Youth and Sports Mehmet Muharrem Kasapoglu.”
Later, a cooperation protocol was signed by Hasan Maral, Secretary General of Karacadag Development Agency, and Nüammer Uslu, Provincial Director of Youth and Sports.
Dicle University Rector Prof. Dr. Mehmet Karakoç, Provincial Director of National Education Murat Kucukali and Metropolitan Municipality Department of Youth and Sports Services Head Mehmet Kesen also attended the ceremony.
