Elden Ring is a game that normally takes tens of hours to finish without getting too much meat and milk. For example, I don’t even feel like I’m halfway through the game, even though I’ve been over 100 hours playing with the motto that there’s no sightseeing, no unfinished mission, no items left.
But then there are the speedcoons, you know, and the first name that comes to mind when you think of Elden Ring is Distortion2. Distortion 2, which lowered the record to 33:55 and then 28:59 earlier this month, set another truly admirable record by exploring new glitches and practicing constantly playing the same places, reducing speedrun time to less than 19 minutes.
Elden Ring 1.03 closed some glitches with its patch, and also nerded some of the skills used in speedrun laps. Distortion2 still uses version 1.0.2, so its Hoarfrost Stomp is still very powerful, its zip glitches are still very useful.
Still, watching the video below, you can’t help but wonder “how do these guys find these things” and admire the broadcaster’s talents. The fact that he downloads the resolution to 800×450 every once in a while to use zip glitchi, knows by heart where to use it, does not break his cool despite low HP when fighting Maliketh; and does not waste time using flask, constantly going on the home screen and reloading, and so on, is really an indication that the speedrun community is playing these games at a different level.
If you’re interested in speedrun culture from afar, or wondering how to finish a game like Elden Ring in 19 minutes, be sure to watch this video:
If I tell you that this record was broken at the end of a 15-hour broadcast, you’ll understand what kind of effort it is.
The speedrun record with 1.03 patch is now in l337Plummy, which, considering the corrected glitches, this 40-minute time is not bad either.
