Sony announced this week that it will introduce the PS5 VRR (Variable Refresh Rate) to players around the world. This feature prevents problems such as frame rate issues and screen tearing.
What is PS5 VRR (Variable Refresh Rate) and what does it do?
PS5 VRR allows HDMI 2.1 VRR-powered TVs and monitors to dynamically sync the refresh rate of the display with the console’s graphics output. This improves the visual performance of games by minimizing or eliminating visual flaws such as frame rate issues and screen tearing. This makes many games more fluid.
It was also announced that some ps5 games released may be fully optimizeable for VRR through the update, and may have this support from the day they are released for subsequent games. Some games currently support PS5 VRR.
Ps5 VRR supported games are as follows:
- Astro’s Playroom
- Call of Duty: Vanguard
- Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War
- Deathloop
- Destiny 2
- Devil May Cry 5 Special Edition
- DIRT 5
- Godfall
- Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered
- Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales
- Ratchet &clank: Rift Apart
- Resident Evil Village
- Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands
- Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege
- Tribes of Midgard
It has been announced by Sony that an update will come to your console in the next few days and that you can download the update, which will be released worldwide. Once you install the update, connecting your PS5 console to HDMI 2.1 VRR compatible monitors and TVs will automatically be enabled for VRR-powered games. You will also be able to turn it on and off in the system settings.
It is also said that you can choose to use VRR support in unsupported games. However, this can improve quality as well as lead to unexpected visual effects. If you encounter this type of situation, you will be able to turn it off at any time.
