Jeff Smith, creator of the Bone comic book series, reacted to Netflix’s cancellation of Bone by drawing cartoons in the way he knew best. After netflix saw its subscriber numbers drop for the first time in years, it initially billed the animation department and canceled some productions.
The fact that the bone adaptation, which has been expected for years, is back in the air seems to have been seriously disappointing for Jeff Smith. Netflix announced the adaptation of this comic book in 2019, and three years later, the news of the cancellation did not make anyone happy.
Jeff Smith;in the tape cartoon we first see Nickelodeon approaching Fone Bone for the film. Fone Bone gets excited about “let’s make a movie,” but Nickelodeon pulls the ball out from under Bone’s feet at the last minute, causing him to fall.
Then Warner Bros comes in. Bone, who initially hesitated but accepted the offer that “they did Bugs Bunny,” once again falls to the ground with the ball pulled.
Then netflix is next. “The publishing world is a whole new thing! It’s going to be different this time,” Fone Bone said, signaling in the final frame that he would no longer be involved when he found himself on the ground.
This tape caricature of Smith is based on a similar story by Snoopy, which is why the last frame has a note that says, “I apologize to Schulz:)
By the way, did you know that Telltale Games is a Bone adaptation of the first adventure game? Bone: Out of Boneville is the first book in the Bone comic book series and deals with the adventures of Fone Bone and his cousins Phoney Bone and Smiley Bone. It’s one of Telltale’s sold-out games.
