Kotaku reported that developer Hangar 13’s UK studio in Brighton is developing a new Mafia game that preceded the events of the Mafia trilogy. Kotaku’s report was published following the announcement that Haden Blackman, the studio head of Hangar 13, was leaving his parent company, 2K. Following Blackman’s departure, Nick Baynes will take over hangar 13’s Brighton studio.
According to the report, the game’s code name is Nero. The new game is being developed with the Unreal Engine 5 engine, unlike the Mafia 3 engine used for Mafia Trilogy remasters in 2020. If Kotaku’s report is correct, the new game is currently in development very early.
In November, however, it was claimed that Hangar 13 had cancelled a new game. Codenamed Volt, the project has been reportedly under development in various ways since 2017. An earlier leak introduced the Volt as an open-world sci-fi game with supernatural elements.
