In the past few years, the graphical changes and developments in the gaming world have reached very high levels. Unreal Engine and Unity are some of the most popular engines that help the industry move forward. You know, recently UE5 was released, and for the moment it has a lot of remake titles in it. In addition, independent artists and modculars began to work individually on what the titles would look like with a refresher. One of them is portal, which was built in 2007.
Portal comes to life again with Unreal Enfine 5
Alfred Beddow, a UK-based 3d modeler and environmental designer, shared some images of the classic Valve puzzle game he created in Unreal Engine 5. The result is a pretty good example of how far the visuals have come in such a short time. Specifically, the first level on the Portal, The Test Room OO, has been redesigned. Each entity has been rebuilt individually, and some designs include 8K resolutions.
Prepared for a university portfolio, Beddow’s modern work looks great with lots of clear details and surreal lighting. Although some fans want to make a different Portal version by reducing the game’s images considerably to have an N64 look, there is a lot of audiences who want to see a refurbished and high quality content. Of course, it’s worth noting that Bellow’s work is artistic content and does not have a production currently under development.
Despite being a production with pondering puzzles, the first two games of the series had a significant fan base and were among the best examples of its kind. The puzzles within the portal were very good, but the main factor that made portal really endearing and made most people a fan was the narrative.
It’s a shame that one of the original writers of the production didn’t show up, even though he was so eager for the new play in the series. The portal was left in a huge void due to Valve’s failure to officially release a sequel to the series. Most fans wanted to see where the story went after the second, but it seems unlikely that Chell and his sworn enemies will return right now.
