The film Avatar, released in 2009, was a visual feast. Avatar, which plays a leading role in the spread of 3D films, can also be the initiator of a new trend with its sequel. With The Way of Water, which will be released at the end of this year, 3D glasses can be given a new meaning. We can also see that Avatar has new words to say in the box office revenues that have become huge with the Marvel Cinematic Universe. With the Avengers out of the box, we could be on the eve of a new record.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, a significant part of the audience going to the movies in America did not want to turn to 3D. But Disney is determined to change that. Tony Chambers, Disney’s Global Director of Film Distribution, said, “It’s all about experience. If you do it right, people will come back to the movie, again. People will watch Avatar 2 not just because it’s three-dimensional, but for a great experience.” He has already started to prepare the environment.
On the other hand, James Cameron’s award-winning producer friend Jon Landau has started his 3D praise without slowing down. “What we believe is that the three dimensions offer a more authentic experience in cinema. It adds value to the story we are telling. We do not act as if the three dimensions will come out of a window; on the contrary, we see it as a window to our world. We offer people things they can’t see anywhere else.” Landau has probably never seen a dark scene in extra-dark halls in Turkey with a pair of 3D glasses.
It seems that we will necessarily watch Avatar 2: The Way of Water, which will be released on December 16, in 3D. I hope that the halls will be brighter this time and we can enjoy the film like other countries. On the other hand, the studio, which wants to bring Avatar back to life, is preparing to re-release the first film in various theaters on September 23. I hope that with Avatar 2, we will not start to see every relevant and irrelevant film with the necessity of 3D, we have only just started to get out of this situation.
