David Harbour, the beloved name of Stranger Things, who participated in the Geeked Week live broadcast, made interesting statements about his experience with games.
Harbour began by saying that World of Warcraft was “the most embarrassing thing of all my existence.” Of course, he exaggerated this a bit, why would it be so embarrassing to play WoW 🙂
“In 2005, I was playing this game morning and night. A year or so ruined my whole life. It was like I was out of my mind, I was weirdly addicted. I had a Night Elf warrior named Norad, and I was the second tank in my guild,” says Harbour, who says he was a hardcore raider during this time. Anyway, at least if it wasn’t MT, then the responsibility would be more.
Harbour’s realization of this addiction was thanks to another game: The Sims.
“It’s funny, because I was also playing The Sims. Have you ever played The Sims? You can be an actor in Sims. You can progress in your career, but for that, you have to work on something. For example, you need to work on your speech, on your body.
I remember my avatar had reached a certain level in his career and I was still working on his speech. He was a supporting character actor, I wanted him to talk and work on his body, and all he wanted to do was sit down and play video games. At that point I said whoa whoa whoa and I had enlightenment, my whole life was right in front of my eyes.”
Harbour, who had such an enlightenment, distanced himself from video games and focused on his work. You already know the aftermath, Stranger Things is Red Guardian in the MCU on the one hand, and Red Guardian on the other.
“I’m back. I’m that returning child. I’m the Tyson Fury of acting,” Harbour says.
You can watch the relevant parts from the 17th minute of the video. Of course, the fact that Winona Ryder’s first reaction to this issue was “What is World of Warcraft” was a detail that showed how far she was from these issues.
