Tony Hawk;s Pro Skater 1 + 2 Remake was developed by Vicarious Visions in 2020 and received extremely positive reviews. As such, players were hoping to see remake versions of the other games in the series, which Activision extinguished (for now) by putting Vicarious Visions at Blizzard’s disposal.
Speaking on a Twitch live stream, Tony Hawk revealed that remakes were indeed planned for the third and fourth games when Tony Hawk;s Pro Skater 1 + 2 debuted, but the project was shelved as a result of Vicarious Visions’ merger with Blizzard.
“That was the plan. There were also plans for 3 and 4 until the day the remake of 1 and 2 was published. Then they devoured Vicarious, and then they started looking for other developers. Then it all came to an end,” says Tony Hawk.
Activision began looking for other studios to work on remake projects after Vicarious. “Activision started looking for someone new to do 3 and 4, but they couldn’t find anyone they could trust as much as they trusted Vicarious. They got ideas about the games from other studios, but they didn’t like anything they heard.”
Tony Hawk is also uncomfortable with this: “I wish there was a way to bring back these games, maybe it would be in the future,” he says.
It sounds weird that Activision vaporized Vicarious Visions and then said, “Let’s give those games to someone new,” and then thinks they can’t replace VV. Now that you release Vicarious again or get him to work on the remakes?
