Battlefield 2042 made its debut with major shortcomings and disappointments. Therefore, the number of players who are constantly declining is one of the consequences of DICE’s mistakes. DICE learned a lesson from this and turned the entire studio upside down. Some executives left, including then-General Manager Oskar Gabrielson. Rebecka Coutaz has been in the boss’s chair for less than six months.
Rebecka Coutaz is an experienced executive in the gaming industry who participated in the development of Riders Republic, Steep games at Ubisoft and worked on the multiplayer modes of Assassin’s Creed and Splinter Cell. Rebecka, who gave one of his first interviews to GameIndustry since he led DICE, touched on how the company will now proceed.
DICE has no time for projects other than to focus on the Battlefield franchise.
While the studio has worked heavily on the Battlefield series for the past 20 years, it has occasionally developed other games, including the Mirror’s Edge and Star Wars Battlefront series. Upon the release of Battlefield 2042, a lot of fix updates were introduced, especially considering the wishes of the players.
“DICE spent six months trying to fix and improve the game, and finally confidently launched the first season of the game,” Rebecka said in an interview, and “We got good feedback” about the first season. Although he states that leaving the game is definitely not on their agenda, Hazard Zone, one of the big modes of the game since the beginning of the first season , is not yet supported.
Responding to the claims that the game was completely abandoned and whether other productions such as Mirror’s Edge were passed, Rebecka said that it was actually the opposite. “It’s out of the question for us to let the game die. We can’t do that to our players and the teams working on the game.”, “We’re just focusing on Battlefield 2042. We don’t have time for anything else, and that’s what we want to do. We want to be the first-person shooter force that DICE deserves in three years, and that’s what we’re striving for.”
Apart from DICE, EA Gothenburg, Ripple Effect, and Criterion are also working on Battlefield 2042. While Criterion is also developing the new Need for Speed game, according to EA’s statements, the other two studios are completely focused on the last Battlefield, like DICE. DICE and EA seem to be very hopeful and ambitious that Battlefield 2042 will return to their players.
