We have seen various methods of raising awareness of climate change in the world and recent natural disasters. It seems that now there will be studies in this direction in the games.
The Playing for the Planet project aims to raise awareness of the environment and climate change through games. For this, the formation cooperates with large companies such as Ubisoft, SEGA, Rovio, Microsoft, Gameloft and Bandai Namco and has a range of games to cover almost every platform.
Players will need to tackle climate change and disasters
Ubisoft’s Riders Republic will be joined by sudden wildfires as part of an event to be brought in July. In such a situation, players will be greeted by a sky covered with orange and fire smoke, close to the real thing. While part of the map will be inaccessible due to fires, the characters will also be equipped with gas masks.
The aim is to bring players into an emotional turn by pitting players against unannounced in-game events. They will be “short and intense” and thus evoke a moment of shock that will be created.
Players will be expected to fight the fire and save the forest as soon as they encounter such an event. For this, first of all, players will need to identify the most fragile and flammable areas in the nature park. Once the risk of the fire spreading has been assessed, it will need to be reduced through joint activities.
Skull and Bones, which are expected to be reintroduced soon , will similarly host disasters that may occur in the open sea. The game, which has a possible release date leaked, will also focus on the fact that the demand for sharks’ fins causes overfishing and the consequences of this. Players will have the option to contribute to the conservation of marine wildlife and understand the destructive nature of the shark fin trade.
Rainbow Six Siege, Trackmania, Subway Surfers, Pac-Man, Asphalt 9 and Assassin’s Creed Valhalla will also contribute to and highlight reforestation efforts in 2022 with new in-game modes, extra DLC or competitions. Similar activities are likely to spread to popular games.
