As you know, Codemasters, the developer of the F1 series, was acquired by EA Games late last year for $1.2 billion. The new game of the series, F1 2021, which has not exceeded 100 TL until now, is jaw-dropping in price. Of course, with the touch of EA, the price of the new game in the series has quadrupled that of its predecessor. Even though EA is known as a ruthless firm when it comes to pricing, we didn’t expect this much. For comparison, let’s look at the prices of previous games in the series. Prices are today’s prices and were bought from the Steam store for the PC platform.
Where did this F1 2021 price increase come from?
- F1 2016 – £25.00
- F1 2017 – £32.00
- F1 2018 – £40.00
- F1 2019 – 61.00 TL
- F1 2020 – 92.00 TL
- F1 2021 – 419.00 TL
If we try to show this simply on a graph, you will feel the EA effect very comfortably.
If Electronic Arts wants to return empty-handed by Turkey, we can say that this pricing is great. After the sales success of Forza Horizon 4,which is sold at a nice price for Turkey, we thought that the companies would pay a little more attention in this regard. But it doesn’t look like it ever happened. Without subscription services like EA Play, it will become impossible for us to access such games. Of course, it is not yet known whether this price increase is due to EA or distributors. The price issue of F1 2021 is also discussed by Turkish players on social media. We look at the price of every new game first. We hope that companies will become more sensitive about the games they will sell to Turkey in the future by realizing this discomfort.
