Sony announced the results for fiscal year 2020, which ended March 31, 2021.
PlayStation 5 sales surpassed 7.8 million and PlayStation 4 sales surpassed 115.9 million.
As of March 31, 2021, Sony’s expectation for PlayStation 5 sales was 7.6 million, exceeding that expectation by 200,000 units. Between January 1, 2021 and March 31, 2021, 3.3 million PlayStation 5s and 1 million PlayStation 4s were sold in the fourth quarter of fiscal year 2020.
As of March 31, 2021, the number of PlayStation Plus subscribers reached 47.6 million. In the same period of the previous fiscal year, the number was 41.5 million.
In the fourth quarter of fiscal 2020, 61.4 million PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 games were sold. (3.9 million fewer than in the same period of the previous fiscal year). Of the 61.4 million, 7.9 million belong to first-party games. (1.3 million fewer than in the same period of the previous fiscal year). 79% of game sales are digital. (It was 68% in the same period of the previous fiscal year).
