I think what we call family sharing is one of the most important features of digital subscription services and digital libraries. I find Steam very successful in this regard, for example, we have full access to my brother’s library and he has full access to mine. Instead of buying the same game twice, we play from each other’s library, achievements, progressions, records are kept in our own accounts.
That was the most lacking aspect of a great system like Game Pass in my opinion. In fact, it was possible to share the same Game Pass account in some ways, but the advantages of Family Sharing could not be used. That’s about to change, and if this is designed correctly, Microsoft will write a plus point directly to the digit.
According to the article published on the official Xbox site , Microsoft has started testing the Family Sharing plan for Game Pass. In this way, up to five people will be able to use with the same subscription.
The tests will first take place in Colombia and Ireland, where everyone who participates in a Family Sharing will have access to games, content and other benefits.
Microsoft will apply a different price plan for the Family Sharing plan. In the first tests, it was observed that a one-month Game Pass Ultimate subscription was converted to 18 days in this new system. If the price is going to be twice the regular subscription, there is no advantage for those who want to use it for two people. But just like in services such as Netflix and Disney +, if 5 people come together and divide the subscription fee, then a very advantageous price will emerge.
We have Game Pass Ultimate for 45 liras per month. In the new system, if the price is 75 liras, it will fall to 15 liras per month for five people.
PC Game Pass is 30 liras per month with us. If we calculate 30 days as 18 days with a similar calculation), if the price of the new service is 50 dollars, it means that we are likely to become a Game Pass subscriber for only 10 dollars a month.
We’ll find out the actual prices and features when the tests are over, but it’s exciting that such an initiative has even begun.
