I don’t think words are enough to tell me what Castlevania means to me. Perhaps the reason I’m so close to the games is that Castlevania, as the first game I’ve ever played, already takes up a lot of space in my heart. Add to this the quality of being the first review I wrote in my childhood dream, The Gamegezer, and of course it would not be possible to define this love with a few paragraphs. Naturally, I follow the animation of the series closely and try to bring you a review every season. This adventure, which we went on with you in 2017, has finally reached its finale.
Frankly, I find it very difficult to put my words together when I’m writing reviews that are so personally important. This monster, who delighted me with his first season, managed to leave a smile on my face in his last season. We’ll touch on the details of that smile, of course, but there may be some surprise spoilers later in the article. So if you haven’t seen the last season yet, it’s worth leaving at this point. When you’re done with the adventure, we can go back and discuss whether our ideas overlap.
Shimal Star
In 2017, Trevor Belmont and I finally said goodbye to this adventure. I don’t want to start the writing hopelessly and spoil your taste. That’s why we’ll first look at the strengths of Castlevania’s final season. If you ask me, the animations that separate this series from its counterparts are very powerful this season. I’m particularly ecstatic that Trevor uses Morningstar in action scenes. Likewise, the energy emitted by Sypha’s talents, Alucard’s agile movements and transforming abilities are among the details that look pleasing to the eye.
It’s like he’s been more picky about music. For example, there aren’t many classic Castlevania music that gives me goosebumps in season two. Nevertheless, familiar tones and occasional “sound effects” were enough to fill this gap.
Before we go into story details, I’d like to address the quality of the action. The “simplicity”, which I criticized especially in the last season, was thrown out of the window in the last season. Perhaps in this season of the best action scenes in the series, there are times when you don’t get a chance to get up or breathe from the edge of your seat. Carmilla and Isaac have a war.
Vampire Is Hidden in Detail
If you ask me, the third season was one of castlevania’s weakest seasons. Unnecessary dramas, extremely low tempo and episodes that felt like “elephants” bothered me. But this time the team managed to shave them and restore the series to its original state. However, our main problem is to wipe out previously planted seeds in order to overcome these problems. I can almost hear you say, “What do you mean?” Let me explain my story.
Carmilla, who made her presence felt in the second season, had become one of the most remarkable characters of the third season, if you remember. We even saw the vampire sisters’ plans, and in the last season, we talked about how our team could go head-to-head with this group. But all this preparation was in vain.
Yes, dear Gamers. Carmilla, who we expected as our “final boss”, made an interesting finale by eliminating herself. Obviously, it upset me and left big questions in my head. However, the team is sure to work on the new Castlevania side sequences from here on out.
Now, Hector and Isaac. Let’s start with Isaac, who has a wider character development than our main characters. Isaac, previously one of Dracula’s most loyal soldiers and desperate for revenge, is finding peace this season. Our friend’s conversation with Hector, who was taken to his corner after completing his mission, is also admirable. To be honest, I’ve been most elesne to Isaac’s story this season. If one of the side sequences is on top of itself, it won’t taste good.
Especially Alucard. Symphony of the Night fans will chase me with greasy stakes, but I’m not used to it. Our friend, who put two brothers at the stake who tried to kill him last season, signaled change. I even found myself thinking belmont and Sypha could fight Alucard in the last season. But Alucard moves on as if nothing had happened. So much so that one person is enough to return himself to humanity.
In short, in general, there is a huge disconnect in the story. Especially when it comes to Dracula.
Where are you, Firuze?
From this point on, we enter deep spoiler land, fasten the belts. What Castlevania did right in the first two seasons was stick to the original story. As you know, the Belmont family has fought Dracula for generations and has been busy hunting its night creatures. The series, which has an inconsistent script for the series, began to lose its influence on Castlevania’s series with the third season. Yes, in the games we often see Dracula return, but in the series it creates a terrible mess. For the last two seasons, we’ve been waiting for Dracula, who died in the second season, to come. meaningless.
But I believe this is a step towards completing the story of Saint Germain. I thought our English friend, who appeared frequently in season three, would affect the relationship between Hector and Isaac, but Saint Germain came across as a character who risked a lot for his love. Still, he certainly played a very key role.
What’s Death and Death, Rose?
Still, this is the latest season full of action scenes that will allow us to ignore these shortcomings. This time, the visuals are overrated, the diameter of the battles is magnified, and there are scenes where you can really feel the two superpowers colliding with each other. I found myself screaming, especially in the fight scenes of our original trio inside the castle and the Carmilla vs Isaac fight I mentioned earlier. Still, if you ask me, this season has only one star: Belmont and Death; the last battle.
Words are incompetent, to be honest. I was fascinated by the confrontation between Belmont and Death, or Grim Reaper as we know it. I thought of the first days I met the NES controller, the Grim Reaper boss. The intensity of the fight, the determination of Belmont and the fluidity of the animations took me away. I can even go a step further and say this is the best fight of the series. congratulations.
So the last season had a bittersweet effect on my palate. Castlevania;the end of the story, dialogue and inconsistencies in the story aside; The happiness of being a part of this adventure, visuals, animations, atmosphere and characters aside. And I owe it to Netflix for giving this legendary series, which has been undervayed for years, a chance.
