Nintendo unveiled a special amiibo of The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD, which will be released in July, but reactions were swift. All this tangier is due to the fact that this amiibo opens up an in-game feature and gives players an advantage.
This amiibo shows Zelda’s Skyward Sword design and a blue Loftwing next to it. The price is about $10 more expensive than regular amiibos, with a price tag of $25. But when you give that money and buy amiibo, you’ve surpassed one of the most criticized parts of the original game and you can take to the skies at any time. Normally you have to find the nearest registration point to do this, which means a lot of trips. With amiibo, you’re kind of winning something like cheating.
There was criticism of Skyward Sword’s pace and too many tides, and this fast-travel event is the kind of thing that will dispel those criticisms. However, if you only have amiibo, it’s no different to loot boxes, which give you an advantage in games other than cosmetics.
amiibos can give different bonuses in games, but these are not things that make the game more playable in an instant. So in Breath of the Wild, you can catch the fastest horse even if you’re already in-game, you don’t necessarily have to own amiibo. Or you could say that costume-opening, gun-opening amiibos appeal more to the cosmetic side of the business. Skyward Sword, on the other hand, may have opened an unpleasant door for the players.
Nintendo doesn’t need these things to sell amiibo, which is probably not a product to sell. But that’s why the vast majority of players will be deprived of that trait. Now nintendo is expected to make a change in their decision until the game comes out and add the same feature as a gameable feature.
