Elite Dangerous;’s long-awaited new content, the Odyssey, was released on May 19, but it also raised dozens of problems. Crashing, poor performance, bug-filled missions, failed optimization, the game’s Steam page was inundated with negative reviews. So much so that currently only 31% of the more than 3200 reviews on the game’s Steam page are positive and the overall review is Mostly Negative.
David Braben, the boss of Frontier Developments, issued a public apology for the problems of elite dangerous odyssey.
“First of all, I sincerely apologize to all those who have suffered from these problems. I would like to make it absolutely clear that we take these issues very seriously and that resolving them is our top priority,” Braben said, adding that a second hotfix would be published shortly.
“We will continue to release updates that will solve more errors and make the game better,” Braben said, adding that “I thank everyone for their patience and support.”
It has become customary for games that have been studied for so long and created hype to explode in their release days. None of this could have happened if they’d done enough tests, but I hope Frontier learns an important lesson from this.
