Benoit Sokal, the creator of the Syberia series, has died after failing to recover from the grip of a long-fighting disease, according to microids; Sokal was only 66.
“Benoit Sokal, who rose to fame as a storyteller and comic book artist, contributed greatly to the international popularity of video games through his work for 25 years. A true visionary and incredibly talented artist, Benoit Sokal also made a unique mark on microids history. Starting with his first play, Amerzone, in 1999, he worked very hard to share his vision with the world. His different style made the different universes he designed unforgettable for thousands of players,” says Microids.
Microids said that Benoit Sokal is mainly known for the Syberia series and that it is a product of Sokal’s love for Eastern Europe, and that all employees are very sorry for this news.
Syberia 1 and Syberia 2 in particular are among the best and most original productions in the history of adventure, and I must say that they are both classics in my eyes. It’s very sad news for the gaming world.
