Overwatch 2 maps will include dynamic times of the day and weather, as highlighted in a new technical blog for the game.
The new feature of Overwatch 2 has been mentioned before.. However, no details were given on how this system would work. This has changed thanks to a new technical blog on the Overwatch website. The blog provides fans with a variety of details about the dynamic weather. It also reveals some interesting details about map changes.
This new system has been called ‘Environmental States’, which will allow maps in Overwatch to get rid of static settings. Lighting artist Fabien Christin says in a blog post: “For Overwatch 2, we wanted to create interesting new moods that would completely change the feel of a place. Imagine traveling to Numbani and seeing the futuristic city light up in a warm African sunset.”
Overwatch 2 will have a comprehensive PvE mode in which this new system will be implemented. However, there is no mention of whether these weather effects extend to competitive multiplayer. However, if players have to deal with randomly challenging weather conditions, this seems unlikely as it can affect the competitive integrity of a match.
