A game with a lot of memories in my memory, BF 1942, I enter without knowing which one to start with, the nostalgic online, or rather multiplayer FPS conversation, where virtual bullets buzz, tanks, F1-F7 ready-made radio commands reverberate in my ears. I met your teammates and opponents through LAN parties, it must have been 2003.
BATTLEFIELD 1942
|
Colorful, adrenaline-fueled and full of passion for acting, dear reader in this one episode that will follow. During my time at Sour Dictionary, I occasionally attended some events organized by platform members among themselves; like carpet field matches, going to the theater, historical trips to the city.
When I saw the title “Battlefield 1942 LAN Party” on a summer day fifteen years ago, I found myself on a hot summer evening in a street in Besiktas, in a game-heavy internet café. Of course, I knew friends from meetings I’d attended before, called the Summit. When I was translating Call of Duty, GTA, etc. with a tall, playful friend I had just met, I learned that he was a magazine writer nicknamed “Jesuskane”, whose writing I read fondly. Let me send greetings to our Kaan Alkin friend, who was not despising to write in the same period in The Gamegezer, by commemorating the old days of Organized Industry.
Flag grabbing until morning
It was a time when I was just getting used to the mornings in pursuit of the game. Stuttering like a slide strip, freezing for seconds, were also the days when I started calculating to refresh the video card, ram, etc. so that I could play BF 1942 properly. As I recall, because I didn’t have much FPS experience other than Half-Life, at the LAN party summit that stretched back to the early hours of the morning, I scored even behind our brother Damla, with who we were magazine friends with in the early 2010s (he’s very angry now, he’ll definitely throw me an invitation to BFV – Deathmatch, finding me from Origin).
Some of them are vast, some of them are real 2. I met a measured arcade FPS at this LAN party that managed to keep the Atmosphere of World War II a little bit alive. Let me add that in a day or two I took the game in boxes and immediately engaged in urban battles in Kharkov’s tank battles, in the ruins of Arnhem. After attending LAN parties two or three more times in the form of intimate squawks and banter (which, although there were different types of options such as DVO, strategy, sports, BF 1942 was preferred), with the arrival of adsl connectivity, battlefield 1942 became the production that began to place the love of online multiplayer FPS in me.
100-120 ms. I still remember on a Europe-based server where I could ping around, cracking virtual rifles for hours on carless maps, with radio messages like “Medics!”, “Urgent support needed!” echoing in my ears. I’d like to play BF 1942, including additional packages, with “refreshed graphics”, and if not, play it in its old, classic and pure form and make a sweet nostalgia.
Road To Rome and Secret Weapons of WW2 expansion packs allowed for real expansion of game content. BF 1942 game times were increasing exponentially on maps on different fronts from the main game with new troops, weapons and vehicles. The better part was that it was possible to get the main game and its additional packages for reasonable fees compared to today’s exorbitant prices.
Why Did He Become a Legend?
MOD SUPPORT
Powerful and effective vehicles such as tanks and fighter jets are very popular, and I would love the vehicle-free, infantry-only mode, which aims to prevent teammates from squeezing at each other in online sessions. Only pistols and melee, just modes such as a certain class, were also changes that really extended the life of the game. If you come across friends who are like their heads at LAN parties, thanks to the flexible structure of the game, you can also create in-game fun such as military jeep racing, reaching the middle of the map from two extreme points.
GRAPHICS AND ATMOSPHERE
Considering that it was built in the early 000s, it had a lot of quality, eye-rolling visual richness compared to its period for BF 1942. The swaying desert sands, the smoke rising from the ruins in the inner city, the noises rising from the aircraft engines, the vast blueness of the Pacific ocean are the technical details that raise the atmosphere and stay in my mind after all these years.
RICH CONTENT
Maps with different characteristics would look vast. Tank clashes in the wooded terrain of Kharkov and Khursk, fighters appearing on maps like Iwo Jima on the Pacific islands, fighters tucked between buildings such as Berlin and Stalingrad, offered hundreds of hours of tireless online multiplayer entertainment. In addition to the maps that came with additional packages, it was also possible to play with troops and equipment such as France and Italy. The class system that the BF series still uses today began with the 1942 version and was very good at tactical diversity in gameplay and promoting team play.
