One of the sectors most affected by the pandemic period was undoubtedly cinema. The fact that the halls cannot operate at full capacity or even be completely closed for a period of time “will cinemas be a niche culture now?” questions. On top of that, hbo maxwill release all the movies that come out in 2021, which has the already great advantage of streaming services. Fortunately, the MCU came to the rescue of the halls, and the first MCU film of 2021, Black Widow,added to its classic box office successes.
The film hit a post-pandemic record with an opening box office of $80 million locally. Internationally, Black Widow generated around $220 million in revenue. It is also the highest opening box office to be hit since Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, released in 2019. It was also the third highest-grossing MCU origin film, behind Black Panther and Captain Marvel.
This has made Disney very happy, naturally, as well as cinemas. Kareem Daniel, who heads the Disney Department of Media Distribution, reiterated that the MCU is one of the touchstones of the current market, citing its power. At the same time, the film, which was released on Disney+, was a great success in this field. Black Widow, which can be watched with a special membership called Premier Access, has a return of around $60 million to Disney+;
When the heroes of the Marvel Cinematic Universe returned to the screen, the silver lining for movie theaters was restored. Now the films Shang-Chi and Eternals, which will be released consecutively in September and November, are on the horizon. If these two films aren’t shown through Disney+, there will be a much bigger increase in box office revenue. I hope that by the time these movies come, life will be a little more normal and we can all go back to the movie theaters we miss.
