Comic book characters are characters that have an indispensable place in the lives of most of us from the past to the present. Some of us are introduced to these characters by a family elder from a young age, while others build this path themselves. But what both sides have in common is to find something of our own in these characters.
Although DC and Marvel are seen as competitors in this industry, there is no reason why a comic book lover should not enjoy either. Besides the wonderful cinematic universe marvel has created, DC is, in my opinion, a stronger company in the comic book and animation industry.
Today we will talk about animated films, one of dc’s most beloved areas, and introduce 10 DC animated films that you must watch.
Batman: Mask of the Phantasm (1993)
You’ve heard of batman the animated series, which is closely followed by hardcore Batman lovers, drags people into the 90s lines in every way, and has cultished Batman, so to speak. Mask of the Phantasm is a film based on the series.
Animated Series has been content that, for me, has made Batman batman, as well as many of his arch-enemies. Batman the Animated Series, which has become a cult hit with its dramatic scenes as well as its classic costume, has not ruled out filming these factors. The performances of incredible sound artists have also increased the impressiveness.
We’re used to seeing Batman in a love story with Catwoman. But things are changing in this movie. Still, I don’t want Catwoman lovers to be biased.
Because we’re used to seeing a Batman who’s unhappy and renounced his own happiness, batman will be just as surprised by the little happiness we’ve been given in this film as the audience, which for me is perhaps one of the most meaningful dialogues in Batman’s history.
Our character, who decides that happiness or being Batman can’t be sustained at the same time, understands that you have to choose someone. Meanwhile, his phrase “I didn’t count on being happy.”
The rise of a new villain in Gotham doesn’t make it easier for Batman to get rid of this dilemma, but it forces him to chart a path.
As you discover our villain, nicknamed Phantasm, there are many moments in the film you won’t forget, and batman’s true feelings will make you look at this movie from a different perspective.
Mask of the Phantasm, which gained an incredible place in me thanks to the Joker’s haunting laugh scene and Alfred’s reaction when he first saw Bruce in costume, is the best film in my heart under the name DC, although there is no ranking on the list.
Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker (2000)
The producers of Batman: The Animated Series appeared in another animated series, Batman Beyond, after the series ended.
Batman Beyond doesn’t show us the Batman of Bruce Wayne that we all know. On the contrary, it reveals a universe in which Wayne has stepped out of the profession due to old age and been replaced by Terry McGinnis.
Unfortunately, many of the characters we love in this universe have lost their lives due to old age, so we see not Jim Gordon in GCPD, but his daughter Barbara. Likewise, an Alfred Pennyworth on Wayne Manor with a tea tray is unfortunately not in this universe. Batman’s fierce enemy, the Joker, is known to be dead.
Return of the Joker, as you can see from the name, deals with the Joker’s return. Mark Hamill, who made the Joker the Joker, and Kevin Conroy, whom we can’t imagine Batman without, give their viewers nostalgic moments again.
The film widely talks about the Joker’s death and how he came back. If you want to watch an adventurous Batman movie with amazing descriptions, amazing music, surprise names and a Cyberpunk Gotham universe, Return of the Joker is for you.
Wonder Woman (2009)
DC’s best-known heroine Wonder Woman has been in the world since she was created; She showed everyone how to be a female superhero, big, small, young, old. I’m sure it will be enough to lock everyone in to the screen to see what adventures Diana Prince, daughter of Queen Hippolyta, head of the Themyscira Amazons, will be involved in.
The adventure begins when a familiar name, pilot Steve Trevor, accidentally lands on Themyscira, and continues with Wonder Woman returning to Earth on a mission.
I think the first film of Wonder Woman, released in 2017 and directed by Patty Jenkins, was inspired by the story. The fact that there are many similarities between the two contents will surely be noticed by the viewers.
This animated film, which reflects Wonder Woman’s character, her view of people and her personality very well; comic book lovers will ensure that everyone has a pleasant time. With a clean stream of stories and character development, Wonder Woman (2009) was one of the names that deserved to be on the list.
If you want to get to know Diana Prince and can’t quite figure out where to start, I believe this animation is a good place to start.
Batman: Under The Red Hood (2010)
As a Batman fan, I’ve always been fascinated by a good Batman story. It must be increasingly difficult to write an impressive story for our iconic character, who has captivated us with his adventures since 1939. Under the Red Hood, one of the few works that remains memorable and still mentioned today, was known for its comic book before the animated film was released. With impressive character development, emotional scenes and dialogue that will upset Batman lovers, Under The Red Hood is a work not to be missed.
Addressing a tragic memory of Batman (No, not the death of his family), the film leaves our character with difficult choices. The identity of the enemy, who knows certain taboos of the character and leaves him in difficult circumstances, can be a surprise name for the general audience, although it does not surprise the hardcore followers.
It’s hard to talk without telling you too much about it. But if you’re excited to see Batman face someone who knows what his next step will be, Under The Red Hood will make you happy.
Superman/Shazam!: The Return of Black Man (2010)
Solomon, Hercules, Atlas, Zeus, Achilles, and Mercury.
Not only did he give Shazam the initials, but he also shared his powers. And who will be the lucky one to own these powers? A cop? A master fighter? Maybe an athlete?
No, billy batson, the only kid who owns these powers.
Shazam, in my eyes, I’d say DC’s Spider-Man. Protecting the child (literally the child inside) as spider-man reminds me of when I was little and the way I met these characters.
Billy Batson, a big superhero fan, moves from foster home to a foster home with a foster family. He makes doing good by envious of superheroes part of his day and is discovered by a wizard named Wizard. The sorcerer is looking for that good man who will hand over his powers but will not regret handing over. He finally finds it in a child, and he’s none other than Billy Batson.
What happens when a kid who grew up with superheroes has those powers one day? How does Shazam deal with his enemies, even though he is in the body of an adult and has a child in him?
The answer to these questions is hidden in this mini-animated film. Since the film is about 25 minutes, it ends just as you’re used to the characters and the plot. But it’s definitely worth the pleasure you get anyway.
This heartwarming film, which allows us to get to know Shazam (aka Captain Marvel), is on this list for me without hesitation.
If you want to see how Billy Batson copes with his fierce enemy, Black Man, I highly recommend this animation. After all, which one of us didn’t want to be a superhero when we were little?
Justice League: Doom (2012)
Superheroes are great, aren’t they? What if it wasn’t superheroes? Gotham, Metropolis, Central City and many more would be perfect for occupation.
That’s why Justice League remains one of the most important values the World has. But no one is completely invincible, even though the team with these superpowers may seem invincible to us.
Justice League: Doom tackles this theme, putting each of our heroes’ fierce enemies in front of them. Cheetah, Star Sapphire, Metalio, Bane, Mirror Master and Ma’alefa’ak respectively; Wonder Woman faces Green Lantern, Superman, Batman, Flash and Martian Manhunter. When our team thinks they’re going to be involved in their usual battle, there are incidents they don’t take into account.
This group, called Legion of Doom and led by Vandal Savage, wants to defeat Justice League, the only obstacle to the end of the World.
In this film, which shows Batman’s war intelligence and is literally prepared for anything, many memorable dialogues are his own.
If you’re wondering how they got out of justice league’s surprise plan with great sound actors, don’t miss the movie.
Batman: The Dark Knight Returns Part 1 &2 (2013)
I’m sure you’ve heard of The Dark Knight Returns as a comic book lover. This story, brought to life by Frank Miller with his unique pen, is a major turning point for Batman and his fans.
Before the 1986 comic book, the definition of Batman was not what we know today. As we know from the early Batman comics or Adam West’s playful depictions of Batman, the Dark Knight we used to see has almost nothing to do with what it is today. Although in the old version we watched a Batman adventure with fun, atics and colorful tones; We are watching a more serious Batman with pessimistic, black tones dominated by new content. I don’t think we’d be saying anything wrong if we called the owner of this transformation Frank Miller.
The city of Gotham, not left alone in the retirement of our Dark Knight, leads to old Bruce Wayne re-wearing the costume for the last time. Seeing the pair fight together during their exciting journey with new Robin Carrie Kelley also gives the audience a pleasant moment.
Warner Bros. Animation, which publishes two parties to tell the cult story, I think it made the right decision. As much as Part 1 may seem like an introduction, I think it’s necessary for us to be able to see a good adaptation of such a detailed comic book series. However, these animated films that bring an incredible Batman story to us are definitely worth watching.
Part 2 complicates matters when the character superman, who we know very well, is assigned to end Batman’s lawlessness. In this film, where we witness an epic Batman and Superman battle, it is a great pleasure to be able to watch the comic’s unforgettable panels live on screen.
Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox (2013)
Don’t look at justice league in its name. This is a Flash movie. If you’re saying, “I’m tired of seeing content revolving around Batman and Superman,” Flashpoint Paradox is for you.
In the film, we encounter a Flash in which Barry Allen wakes up in an alternate universe and seeks ways to return. It is also possible to witness that the familiar faces we encounter during this journey are actually different from those we know.
Taken from the comic book Flashpoint, this film takes us to a post-apocalyptic world where a war between Wonder Woman and Aquaman reigns. Things continue to get worse in this universe, where we can literally witness hell on Earth.
Realizing that he doesn’t have his old powers here, Barry Allen finds a way to gain his powers and begin preparations to return to the old World. Realizing that he can’t move forward without help in this process, our character collaborates with the Batman of that world. During this adventure, it is also possible to see that most of the characters we think we know are not characters from the other world.
I also have to say that the brutality of this film is equivalent to an R-rated movie atrocity. Don’t miss Flashpoint Paradox to witness a breathtaking Flash story and a face of the DC universe that we don’t see often.
Justice League: War (2014)
Inspired by the work of renowned comic book creators Geoff Johns and Jim Lee, Justice League: Origin, the film tells the story of seven superheroes coming together and coping with the problem they’re having.
These seven superheroes, also known by their original names As Super Seven, are forced to come together to protect the World from a terrible event. Although this necessity later became a permanent union called Justice League, this animated film talks about the team’s first encounters and the adventure of coming together.
The team’s arch-enemy, Darkseid, and the Parademon army in Apocalyptic pose a major threat to Earth. Realizing that they can’t deal with this threat without coming together, our team tries to defeat Darkseid with the first plan they have put together.
This story, which has also inspired Zack Snyder’s Justice League, is one of the most appropriate stories to get to know the seven, as it understandably touches on every character on the team and makes no character redundant.
If you want to see Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, Flash, Shazam and Cyborg together, but you don’t want to read comic books, I invite you to watch this animated film.
Justice League: Dark (2017)
yes, there’s magic in the DC universe! If you’re saying, “I don’t like casual heroics, I need magic,” there’s a movie on the list for that.
Justice League faces a magical threat this time. Since our team has no experience with supernatural events, Batman brings together a new group called Justice League Dark to deal with such issues.
Batman teamed up with John Constantine and Zatanna to find supernatural heroes and created the rest of the team with Deadman, Jason Blood and Swamp Thing.
Although Batman appears to be the majority in the film’s promotions, it is actually a Constantine film. Batman plays more of a mind-boggling and observant role throughout the film, leaving more of an open door for other characters and helping us get to know them.
For anyone who wants to witness the magical battle of the enemy Felix Faust and the team and says, “I’m tired of the same things, I want to see something new.” Matt Ryan’s John Constantine is also worth a visit as usual.
