In particular, Polish developer 11 Bit Studios, known for its anti-war game This War of Mine, announced that all proceeds from next week’s sales of the game (including all stores and platforms) will be donated to the Ukrainian Red Cross Organization.
“Today, Russian military forces attacked the free Ukrainian country, our neighbors. As the creator of This War of Mine, a Polish game studio and world-famous antiwar play about the suffering and suffering of war-affected civilians, we would like to make our studio’s statement on this issue clear. We stand against Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.”” 11 Bit Studios used the hashtag #FuckTheWar in this message.
“Let this message resonate with everything you know about how this war and war killed people and destroyed their lives and homes. Together, the players and developers will do whatever we can to support the victims of the war in Ukraine.”
11 Bit CEO; przemyslaw Marszal also sent this personal message to the studio employees, which sums up the studio’s position on this issue very clearly:
“I write you this message in great personal anger and sadness. Russian politicians have decided to invade Ukraine. One country invades another. And civilians, normal people, will suffer the consequences. As a team of people with empathy and goodwill who are the creators of the anti-war This War of Mine, we have to help, no matter what nationality we are.”
Of course, 11 Bit Studios is not the only studio that condemns Russia’s attack on Ukraine and takes a stand on it. STALKER’s developer, GSC Game World, is a Ukrainian developer based in Kiev. They also issued a message condemning Russia’s “inhuman cruelty” and asking for support from the world.
“Russia attacked our homeland and set its sights on our independence. We’re trying to stay safe, but it’s a war, and this is not the way to go. We call on everyone to force Putin out of our territory.”
Raphael van Lierop, president of Hinterland Games, which developed The Long Dark, was one of those who expressed his reaction. Lierop also addressed the Russian players and sent a message to Russian citizens who disapprove of these happenings by saying “remember, you are not your leaders.”
We can expect such reactions from more developers in the coming days. For now, the major studios are more likely to be content with messages at the level of “we are making necessary initiatives to keep our employees safe.”
