This year’s Academy Awards, broadcast live by ABC, reached the lowest ratings in history. Only 9.85 million viewers attended Sunday’s broadcast, according to data measured by Nielsen. That means the event’s audience is down 58.3 percent from last year.
The Oscars, which reached 29.6 million viewers last year, attracted more than 43 million viewers in 2014. Matthew Ball, who published his analysis in 2018, predicted this decline and said the decrease in viewership was due to the loss of interest in the Oscars ceremony.
At this point, it’s ins out of hand not to agree with Ball. The Oscars, which have been losing interest in recent years, are also holding back from experiencing a change. That’s why most viewers find it more logical to find out only the winners of the Oscars.
