However, Chinese representatives will participate in the tournament online. Riot Games reported that technically all teams will use a network latency tool to keep Ping values constant at 35 ms and will provide referee support control in both Korea and China.
2022 Mid-Season Tournament Update;
“Over the last two years, the global COVID-19 pandemic has created challenges in the field of live events that we can’t even imagine. In the process, our goal was to protect the overall experience of fans and professional players as much as possible while organizing safe and fair events. Travel restrictions on the global pandemic remain real and volatile. We also feel the effects of these restrictions throughout our ecosystem.
Currently, the LPL (China’s regional league) faces the challenges of the ongoing global pandemic. As a result, the league’s MSI representative will not be able to travel to Busan, Korea. However, thanks to the extensive work of our teams carrying out our technology, effectiveness and competitive operations, the LPL team will be able to compete in the tournament without contact from China. The team will participate in the tournament from their own institution building or from the LPL Arena in Shanghai in accordance with local health and safety protocols.
In making this decision, we considered many factors such as security, infrastructure, location and competitive integrity. In addition to having the infrastructure to support remote play, the LPL also has a reasonable ping value between China and Korea. To ensure a fair tournament, we will use a network latency tool that will allow us to keep the pin of all teams in the tournament as close as possible to 35ms. We used the same tool to arrange the pint between China and Korea for the LPL vs LCK match during the 2020 Mid-Season Cup. We will ensure that all MSI teams conduct their friendly matches and training at this ping value so as not to disturb the competitive integrity of the tournament. We will have referee support and supervision in both Korea and China throughout the tournament.”
