Steam Next Fest runs until June 22nd and features nearly 700 demos of the game. Of course, there is not enough time to try all of this, so I asked Ipek Atam and Ihsan Tatari about their favorite demos, and we came up with a nice list like the one below. I say make sure you give the demos on this list a chance, I’m sure you won’t regret it.
You can open the Steam pages of the games by clicking on the images.
They Always Run
Directed by a three-armed, mutant bounty hunter, They Always Run is a production that stands out for its action and fighting mechanics. Since our hunter has a third arm, it gives him an obvious advantage in fights. It’s like we can hit block-making enemies with our third arm, destabilize them, climb fences like Spider-Man, use three pistols at once… Although the controls of the game are a little difficult at first, you get used to it quickly, and then you get caught up in the action and platform elements. Another plus is that the demo offers close to 1 hour of gameplay. Of course, we should not forget the enormous pixel graphics… – Ihsan
Tiny Thor
I think the most appealing thing about Tiny Thor, a pixel-graphic, 2D action-platform game, is that you can use the famously attractive Mjölnir of the god of storms. We can aim in any direction with our tow truck, then throw it with all our might, making it bounce around. Bouncing off walls, corners, enemies, Mjölnir helps us solve small puzzles, open doors and defeat small monsters around. I can safely say it’s more fun than I expected. If you like this type of game, don’t try it. – Ihsan
INCANTAMENTUM
Incantamentum is a game that manages to create a seriously uncanny and eerie atmosphere and tell an uncomfortable story with highly successful pixel graphics. At least the demo part is doing it right. Set in Victorian England, the play brought to mind the films Midsommar and The Witch. “Foreigners are not very popular around here.”
UnMetal
Unmetal is a very funny, fun and reeling game that makes a lot of fun with metal gear solid games and action movies like 80s Rambo. On the one hand, you sneak up on an isometric map similar to the one in the first Metal Gear, trying to take out enemy soldiers, and on the other hand, you laugh at our hero’s indiscrements. I don’t want to spoil your taste by telling jokes, you have to see for yourself. It’s a really successful, promising demo. It’s become one of my favorites, personally. – Ihsan
Lake
There should have been another mailing game after Death Stranding. We’re going to be postman a lot more “as we know it” this time, but. Meredith will return to the town where she grew up and spend two weeks vacationing there, both wandering around the town, dropping off mail at homes and doing various social activities. The game will leave the decisions entirely to us, and we’ll decide what meredith’s going to have. It looks like it’s going to be one of those “classic lakeside town games” (I think it should be such a category) that brings peace and tranquility. – Silk
Mayhem Brawler
Mayhem Brawler, a Turkish progressive fighting game, looks like it will be a production that will flatter us with both graphics, original characters and action. I expect that the production, which came out of the hands of Serkan Özay, the founder of Kahramangiller site, and his friends, will please those who love games such as Final Fight, Street of Rage and Cadillac & Dinasours. – Ihsan
BROK the InvestiGator
Brok is the kind of game we’ve never seen before, offering a combination of classic point and click adventure mechanics and beat;em up. Even when you play your demo, you love brok, the alligator boxer-detective. There’s no need to use your brain all the time in this game, you can say “enough is enough” and kick and slap the other person. If 🙂 you finish the demo and write the game’s producer COWCATGames; e on Twitter;
Greak: Memories of Azur
Greak, which is being developing by a Mexican team, looks like there’s going to be a second Ori case. The emotional story, beautiful music and incredible-looking graphic design combine with a very fluid gameplay. In the game, which will tell the story of 3 brothers, it is possible to switch between the brothers at any time. Let me also add that the abilities of the brothers are completely different, and each one gives a different experience. I especially say ori lovers follow Greak closely. – Silk
There Is No Light
This game actually existed at the last festival. But this time we’re looking at a new demo set in a different region. In There Is No Light, people who take refuge in subway tunnels in the post-apocalyptic world try to protect themselves from the dozens of mutants, strange creatures and terrifying monsters here. But they’re not very successful. We’re leading a silent warrior who can use three different weapons. The trick is to figure out which of our weapons is more effective against which monster. Our fists are fast enemies, our big swords can be more useful against armored. Obviously I liked the previous demo more, it was more impressive and longer. That’s not bad either, but I say don’t make up your mind based on this episode alone. – Ihsan
Road 96
In Road 96, a road story, you’re a teenager who plans to flee the country because of the fascist regime. On this journey, you will find many different situations and your journey will take shape according to your choices. There will be many characters to interact with and many different ways to deviate from the game world, which will be randomly created each time. The producers claim that each actor will create his own story. I loved the demo, I found the music and art management very successful, I am looking forward to the game. – Silk
Alex Kidd in Miracle World DX
He was Sega’s mascot before Sonic the Hedgehog, Alex Kidd. There was a time when there were a lot of plays about his adventures. One of the most famous of these was Miracle World. This popular game, which first appeared in 1986, will soon be back with its revained visuals. We can also play the last-minute demo of the Steam Festival. Just the way I remember the game. It’s fun and cancerously difficult. But his difficulty comes from the stumps of the controls and the inability to predict Alex Kidd’s jumping distance. And then there are the enemies who kill at one touch. However, if you played with pleasure in your time, you are guaranteed to taste the same. The enemies we fight by playing Stone, Paper, Scissors, our helicopters and motorcycles are just as much in place. – Ihsan
Terra Nile
One of the festival’s most ambitious plays, Terra Nile, is based on bringing the barren world back to life. Since each machine you put on the map falls out of your total score, you need to strategically place the machines and play with the plan. Gameplay is so addictive and so relaxing to watch the grey map painted green and revived that terra nile looks like it will be one of those games where the concept of time is lost when the full version comes out. – Silk
Labyrinth City: Pierre the Maze Detective
<a href="//store..steampowered.com/app/1421790/Labyrinth_City_Pierre_the_Maze_Detective/” target=”_blank”>
When you were a kid, did you spend hours at the top of the Where’s the Wandering Parent maps? Or did you like playing Hidden Folks? Then Labyrinth City is your pen. Based on a children’s book series, the game navigates through areas resembling Where’s the Wandering Parent maps, jug, colorful and full of funny details, interacting with objects while looking for things we need to find. Naturally it has a simple structure and is more of a game for children. But we still thought we’d go without mentioning it. – Ihsan
Song of Iron
Song of Iron, a Viking-themed side scrolling action game, is one of the most robust games in the festival. The fights are extremely satisfying and fluid, the visuality, atmosphere, animations and sound design are very successful. When the demo was over, I found out that the game was the work of one person, and I couldn’t believe my eyes, so I’ll tell you that. It’s already clear that it’s going to make a lot of noise when the full version comes out. – Silk
Capital: Sparks of Revolution
You want to prove what a bad manager you are? How about pitting the bourgeois class against the working class and starting an uprising in your city? Torches, burning houses, eggs thrown at government houses, cops shooting at civilians? Hmm? If the answer is yes, go to Capital.
We’re literally trying to regenerate a town in Capital that was destroyed after the war from the ashes. But it’s impossible to please everyone. Who gets the food first? Who are you going to build a house for first? Will you use a small number of cereals for food or alcohol? When you say no to one side, how are you going to dissuade the others from rebellion? It’s a complete game of chaos… – Ihsan
Bear and Breakfast
You always wanted to be a bear running a hotel, didn’t you? With this game you will get your dreams 😛 In the game based on collecting, building and managing resources, we open hotels, make different rooms, decorate rooms, cook and try to keep the guests welcome. The visuals of the game are quite remarkable, as if they were thrown out of cartoons, colorful and cute. In the Stardew Valley setting, it looks like it’s going to be one of those games that will help you get your head around it and relieve stress. – Silk
Death Trash
<img alt="" src="//cdn.akamai.steamstatic.com/steam/apps/941460/header..jpg?t=1623851878″>
Death Trash is an interesting game. It looks like the first Fallout was made up of a merger with a Cthulhu-hei universe. In a post-apocalyptic world, we’re one of those people who lives in underground bunkers. We’re thrown out of the bunker and exiled to the outside world because we’ve contracted a disease. The outside world and the outside world… There’s meat everywhere. Huge piles of flesh gushing out of the ground, beating like pulses. And the funny thing is, we eat these meats to get better (Öğk!)
When we leave the bunker, a giant tentacle-faced creature resembling Cthulhu’s head asks us to find him a “friend.” We’re looking for a way to cure our disease and someone to keep our meat monster company. RGP is a strange and interesting production with elements of privacy and real-time conflict. – Ihsan
Warhammer 40,000: Battlesector
Warhammer 40K games are always a matter of luck. Either they come out so well and you can’t get over them, or they’re very disappointing and you never look at them again. Battlesector seems to be putting his name among the relatively good ones.
In Battlesector, a turn-based strategy game, we take control of one of the Blood Angels divisions of space marines and fight against endless Tyranid hordes. The producers who have earned the word “herd”; Enemies almost never end. You can get the feeling you’re fighting an alien army. There are 3 tutorials and 2 scenario sections in the demo. The unit variety is nice. Conflicts are fun. If you like the genre, be sure to try it. – Ihsan
Animal Shelter Simulator
I wonder why someone didn’t think of it before when everything had a simulator and it wasn’t built to build an animal shelter and run it. We take helpless, injured animals into our shelter and heal them, care for them and try to find permanent homes for them, while at the same time expanding and managing our shelter. Unfortunately, the demo is very, very limited, takes about 15 minutes, but it is enough to understand how the full version of the game will be roughly. He convinced me, 15 minutes was enough to put the game on my wish list. – Silk
White Shadows
Let this demo recommendation come to those who love Limbo and Inside type 2D platform games. In White Shadow, we direct Ravengirl (Ravengirl), a half-human-half-animal creature in a black-and-white world full of machines. I’m not very satisfied with the way it’s played. In general, we just run straight and jump every once in a while, sometimes we pull an arm or something. But the art, the environment and the world design of the game are really successful. As you move through the screen, huge machines fly over your head, a train passes through the middle of the screen, and something happens in the background without stopping. There’s also the game’s depiction of a dark future reminiscent of Inside. It’s worth following. – Ihsan
Industria
Industria is one of the games that appeared at the steam festival last year, but this time with a different demo. I’ll tell you right now, this game needs a lot more cooking. The combat mechanics are a bit raw, there are FPS drops, the controls are a bit cumbersome. But isn’t there that atmosphere, brother, that atmosphere… That’s enough to ignore everything. Because the game smells like Half-Life 2 here. That’s because we’re walking around East Berlin in an abandoned, robot-printed version of here spewing strange machines. Personally, I’m hopeful about this game. But like I said, it needs to be cooked more. – Ihsan
The Season of the Warlock
Gather those who love comedy-style, point-and-click style adventure games. The Season of the Warlock is already a successful example of this genre with its jokes, puzzles and graphics. Inspired by the stories of Edgar Alan Poe and H. P. Lovecraft, we direct both Lord Alistair and his butler Nigel. There are two intertwined stories in the game, and what we do in one affects the other. It’s already one of the classic adventure games I’ve been waiting for the most. – Ihsan
Deathtrap Dungeon: The Golden Room
Based on the stories of Ian Livingstone, co-founder of Games Workshop, the Golden Room is a film-like adventure game (FMV) with all-real actors. Both the footage and the acting are pretty good. If you make the wrong choice, you’re also likely to croak. His only problem is that when he dies, he has to watch all those scenes all over again… If you’re interested, you can give this short 1 GB demo a chance. – Ihsan
KAPIA
I always seem to choose games with their names written in capital letters, BROK, Incantamentum, and now this 🙂 Kapia is a two-man team, developed by a Latvian husband and wife. With a daughter and her grandfather, we embark on an adventure through kapia’s strange apocalyptic world. Reny and Stefan are very different characters, but ultimately they’re a family, and the demo shows that the game is going to be as beautiful as I expected. – Work
Toem
<a href="//store..steampowered.com/app/1307580/TOEM/” target=”_blank”>
Toem was my favorite at the festival. It’s been a testament to the fact that it doesn’t take big budgets for the games to be works of art. I really loved the hand-drawn black-and-white world, the sweetness of its characters and the fact that it fed the mechanics of photography so beautifully into the game. An incredibly soothing, creative and feel-good game, be sure to take a look. – Silk
Sable
You feel the same way when you play the demo of what you felt when we saw Sable in E3; We’ve got a really good game ahead of us. I didn’t notice much at that screening, but hearing Sable’s thoughts when I was talking to the camp dwellers gave the game a really impressive feel. Especially when you open gliding, it’s an inedible business. It offers an experience of about 60 – 90 minutes and makes you want more. It’s a really important move to join Game Pass from day one, it’s already clear that it’s going to be a game that’s going to make a name for itself. – Work
