The 8-Bit Big Band orchestra from New York, which gained notoriety for covering songs from various video games, won the Grammy for its Kirby cover!
Press Start! in 2018 featuring songs from Super Mario, Zelda, Ganbare Goemon, F-Zero and final fantasy series! In 2019, the band released songs from portal, sonic and donkey kong country.
The song that won the 8-Bit Big Band a Grammy award is the 1996 SNES play Kirby Superstar; meta knight’s revenge. The band took home the Award for Best Arrangement for this cover.
Charlie Rosen, one of the track’s arrangers, said, “I can’t believe we won a GRAMMY!! LONG LIVE VIDEO GAME MUSIC!!” shared Kirby;creator Masahiro Sakurai, perhaps most surprised by the news. “How is that possible? I was shocked,” he 🙂
In 2011, Civilization IV won the Grammy for Best Vocalist Instrumental Arrangement; and the following year, journey was nominated for Best Music in the Visual Media category.
