A brief overview of the very strange history of game consoles

It’s not easy to deny that the video game world is experiencing a major revolution with consoles. The era of having a PC to play ended in the 2000s. Here’s a quick look at the bizarre history of the many psychedelic consoles.

1- First generation game consoles
You may all be very surprised, but the first video game console in history was released in 1972.  The MagnavoxOdyssey game console was hailed as a digital miracle that made it possible to connect to a television and play games. Of course, you didn’t have a chance to go and choose games from stores for this machine, and it came with games that were loaded with memory. What we call games were simple games like pong where you kept bouncing a square between two sticks. People would have fun hitting a square ball for hours in front of the screen, as if they were playing a tennis match. The reason why the ball was square was also because in those centuries there was not yet the resolution necessary to create round and small shapes. As you might have guessed, these consoles were not of much interest to adults. These consoles, which were seen as a meaningless children’s toy throughout the 70s, laid the foundation for the prejudice that video games would face for the next 20 years.

2- Balances have changed with second generation game consoles
The machines that changed the balances in the video game world, breaking people’s prejudices against the concept of “video games” for the first time and making them feel that video games would be a fun option were the second generation of game consoles. These were far ahead of the first consoles, both visually and audibly. To give an example of the second-generation game consoles that allow colorful and relatively high-resolution, even scripted games, we can also mention the Atari 2600 game console of the legendary Atari brand. This console, which was released in 1978, conquered the world in 1980. This game console was so loved and sold that video games became known as Atari games in the world, and this definition remained valid for 30 years. Don’t be surprised if you witness the generation still over 50 years old calling video games Atari games. However, Atari was actually just the name of one company. Like Samsung, like Apple, like LG, like Motorola… But with the Atari 2600 console, this company made such a huge video game revolution around the world that the whole world is calling video games by its name. There are very few examples in history where a company has achieved such great success.

3- Third generation game consoles created for competition
The video game revolution created by the Atari 2600 was so massive that Atari alone created a multibillion-dollar market. Electronics companies, which had not even taken video games seriously before, realized this huge market and made a move to compete with Atari, and each of them began to race to develop a game console better than the Atari 2600. It was from 1983 that the third generation of game consoles began to appear, which were the first fruits of this competition. Among them were the Sega and NES gaming systems.

4- What is the fifth thing game consoles
Third-generation and fourth-generation game consoles hit the market so recently that fourth-generation consoles in 1987 seemed to be hastily prepared to steal customers from their predecessors in intense competition and gain a foothold in the market.
