Current: Activision’s official statement on the subject reads:

“This year, we have plans for exciting, exclusive and free-to-play Call of Duty games for next year and beyond. Media reports on the subject, which claim otherwise, are unfounded. We look forward to sharing more details about our plans in the process.”

Bloomberg reported below that the main series, Call of Duty , which will carry Treyarch’s signature, will not be released in 2023.

The Call of Duty series, one of the most revenue-generating entertainment vehicles in the world, will be empty in terms of the main series next year, according to Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier article !

There’s nothing wrong with Modern Warfare, which will be released this year, and there are also different Call of Duty projects under development. But Treyarch’s new Call of Duty game, which would normally be released in 2023, will be released in 2024.

You know, Activision shared Call of Duty’s annual development cycle between three developer studios: Infinity Ward, Treyarch and Sledgehammer to bring the idea of “one Call of Duty every year” to life. In the list below you can see the release years and names of the games:

Activision’s decision to postpone the 2023 game was due to the failure of Vanguard, the last game in the series, to live up to expectations, and for some executives to think that “we are launching new games very quickly.” Of course, you might also wonder how it took them so many years to realize this, but when it comes to Activision, it’s not easy to speculate on what they’re doing and why.

Schreier says the decision is entirely up to Activision, and the acquisition by Microsoft is irrelevant.

Activision was working on new projects to fill that gap. The new Call of Duty game, which will be released this fall, will be supported by more content throughout the year, as well as a new free-to-play online game being considered for next year. Treyarch, who’s going to be empty next year, is also helping with this new free-to-play game.
