Resident Evil Village came up with an unauthorised monster design less than a week after its release date. Last Friday’s game was widely acclaimed despite some minor shortcomings and received positive feedback from the players. Resident Evil Village, one of the best debuting games in the series, is a favorite of the live streaming platforms as well as its sales success. In the past hours, an allegation has been made that would require clarification from Capcom, and as we have stated, the game used an unauthorized design.
Frankenstein’s Army design used in Resident Evil Village without permission
First of all, let’s mention that news details can be spoilers for those who do not play Resident Evil Village in terms of design, although not in the name of the story.
In 2013, Richard Raaphorst signed a film called Frankenstein’s Army, in which he published hisown designs. Set during World War II, the film depicts Russian soldiers discovering a mad scientist’s laboratory and battling the monsters they encountered there. When we looked at the creature designs, it seemed that humans were combined with robotics and metal fragments. I’m sure the people who play Resident Evil Village have already understood this resemblance to the creatures.
Of course, the similarity phase of the work is not limited to this. Richard Raaphorst, the film’s director and father of ideas, posted a statement on his LinkedIn page, saying that a monster design in the game was taken from his own design. “In 2013, I directed a film called Frankenstein’s Army. This was a crazy monster-themed movie where I used my own monster designs. These designs were used in Resident Evil Village without any permission or reference” by Richard Raaphorst, who also demonstrated how justified he could be in his claims, especially with a monster design. The images shared by the director are as follows;
