As comic book adaptations continue to dominate the screen, so do leaf castings. Vertigo& Y: The Last Man comic book was also recently released as a series. However, before the end of the first season, the news came that the show had been cancelled. Y;’s opening scores, which began airing on Hulu last month, weren’t bad either. Eliza Clark, who was the show’s executive producer, shared the decision to cancel the show, which has a 70% viewer rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
On social media, we learned that “Y: The Last Man” will not continue with its second season. I’ve never been so attached to a story in my life. A: The Last Man was about how repressive systems on gender shape personality. Our team included amazing artists of different genders. You could see a woman in every corner of the production. The whole team was working in a coordinated manner. This show was the most organized, creatively satisfying and amazing thing I’ve ever worked on in my life. None of us wanted it to end.” Clark explained the sad ending.
As a comic, Y’s position was more or less in line with what Clark said. However, not every series adaptation can sustain the spirit of the original work. Especially when commercial concerns and ratings are involved, it’s normal for studios to decide to cancel at this time. At least at the end of the day, it’s going to be a first season where Clark and his friends can look at each other with pride. Whether we see Y: The Last Man on screen again is another mystery.
