While the coronavirus pandemic has caused production and supply chain disruptions in all sectors, Acer, which successfully manages workflow processes, became the fastest growing computer manufacturer globally in the third quarter of 2020, growing by 15% in the desktop and laptop PC and workstation market compared to the same period last year. The company has achieved its market share targets for gaming laptops and ultra-thin laptops in 2018 and said it will reach a target market share of 25% in the coming period.
The epidemic affecting the whole world caused production to stop for a certain period of time in almost all sectors, disrupting movements in the supply chain and bringing product flow to a standstill in areas including technology. Companies that have re-established processes with normalization are taking measures to increase their preparations for crisis situations such as pandemics. Companies with a structure that is ready for such processes, such as Acer, were the least affected by the crisis.
Canalys’ research, called PC Market Pulse, which revealed market data covering desktops and laptops and workstations in the third quarter of 2020, found that Acer’s work paid off. According to the study, the company sold 4,902,000 computers in the third quarter of 2019, up 15 percent from 5,638,000 in the same period in 2020. Acer maintained its market share, outperforming its competitors as the fastest growing computer manufacturer globally.
The company recently launched more than 20 new products with an event called [email protected]. In addition, some models updated with new features have recently gone on sale in Turkey. Capturing its target market share of 25 percent in the ultra-thin laptops and gaming laptops categories, Acer is following its market share targets unchanged in the coming period despite the pandemic.
Commenting on the results, Acer EMEA Vice President Grigory Nizovsky said, “Acer’s expertise in the computer world is also supported by successful business processes and channel structure. We also achieve this success regionally. For example, in 2018, we were able to achieve our growth targets for Turkey even during a health crisis affecting the whole world, such as COVID-19. Looking at the whole of 2020, we continue to be an ambitious player in Turkey with a market share of 17.7% on ultra-thin computers and 17.9% in gaming computers.”
Nizovsky added: “Although the PC market in general is growing worldwide, compared to the same period of 2019, trends in a particular country or region may be different. We believe that approximately 1 million units were sold in Turkey in 2019. This figure includes all channels and all customers. This year, which has grown by 30%, the figure could rise to 1.3 million units. For desktops, about half a million units were sold on the market last year. We think this figure will remain the same in 2020.”
