Acer’s Nitro series, as you know, represents the company’s entry-level products. Of course, when you think of entry level, you can think of computers that run the games that come up against you by hand, not come to mind. Nitro 5 series is a series that leans on 10th generation Intel and AMD Ryzen series processors, aiming to combine affordable performance with high performance.
The product, which we liked very much in the previous 2019 version, enters the 2020 model year with a new, 2mm thinner body than before. Although not very aggressive in terms of design, the red panel at the back indicates that you have a gaming computer in front of you. The material quality of the plastic case is very high, and the easy opening of the lid with one hand, unlike the previous one, shows that Acer works well in his lesson. The compact product weighs 2.30kg.
Acer Nitro is a product with 5 different configurations. Our AN515-55 comes with a 15.6-inch FullHD, 144Hz 3ms IPS panel and has an 80% screen/body ratio thanks to its (7.02mm) . We’re not used to seeing a 144Hz screen on entry-level computers, which is a plus point. 72% NTSC can display color gamut, brightness is 300nit is more than enough.
The inside of this thin body is also quite impressive. Although the Intel Core i7-10750H processors used in this model are not a great improvement from the previous generation, the Nvidia GeForce GTX 1660Ti 6GB graphics card and 32GB 2933Mhz DDR4 RAM is a highly competitive, high-priced package. Nitro 5 is usually a preferred product with 8GB and 16GB RAM options, but 32GB is installed on our test machine (Q7PEY.003). On the storage side, there’s very good news. Our test product has a 1GB SSD and, best of all, an extra M.2 slot and supports RAID 0. So you can expand your storage and install an additional 2.5inch HDD if you wish. This detail, which even the 17-inch Helios 300 didn’t have until recently, is quite enjoyable.
Acer has used CoolBoost cooling technology in this model and offers you the opportunity to check all the details through the Nitro Sense program. For my part, I didn’t see any serious improvement when I was under the load. During long gaming sessions, the processor temperature rose to 88 degrees and the GPU temperature to 80 degrees, and the noise level kept up. These are, of course, not high numbers, but it’s hard to talk about serious progress.
The first time we see an RGB keyboard option in the Acer Nitro series on thelavye side. For now, the 4-zone RGB keyboard in Turkey, available only with models with Intel CPU, is very precise and comfortable to use with keys with a range of just 1.6mm
The most serious criticism I can make of theAcer Nitro 5 is the lack of volume of the 2x2W speakers, which offer extremely high quality sound and reflect this in virtualization performance with support for dts:X. We all wear headphones when we play games, so it won’t be a big deal, but when you’re watching a movie on hot nights, the fan noise can sometimes drown out the sound of the movie. Apart from that, the stage, the bass/treble ratio is extremely good and as I said quality. Dts:X de Dolby Atmos’s direct opponent, as I’ve always argued, I don’t see much performance difference between them, at least my ears don’t
The Killer E2600 Ethernet also supported by the Intel AX201 wireless network adapter (Wi-Fi 6) and allows you to manage your network traffic through Killer Control Center, which I find extremely successful. A competitive package for competitive players where every millisecond counts.
Laptop comes with a 135W adapter, while the battery capacity is 57Wh. This is the equivalent of the battery found in last year’s product. We don’t recommend playing games wirelessly as you know, but the 5.5 hours of film, 6.5 hours of internet browsing is a sign that you shouldn’t worry about battery capacity.
In turn to performance, we tested the laptop, which scored 14155 in 3D Mark tests, in several different games. FarCry 5 is still among the most played and performance-demand games, as you know. The average 72fps we received in ultra-settings exceeded our expectations . Apart from that, we got an average of 44fps on Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, a complete system monster, and an average of 75fps in Apex Legends. Let’s also mention that all of them are taken with Ultra or its counterpart graphics settings.
I’m at the end of the review now. the Acer Nitro 5 AN515-55, which comes with the Windows 10 Home, has been a pretty good product and we can’t wait to review the Ryzen-powered versions. The price of the model with exactly the same configuration as our test product (AN515-55, Q7PEY.003) is around 12,000 TL which is the most important factor that increases this price is 32GB ram and 1TB SSD. There are much more economical Nitro 5s to suit your own expectations.
