Added “experience boost” items to Marvel’s Avengers in-game store that will greatly accelerate players’ earnings of experience points. Packages sold between 100 and 500 credits with in-game money drew a reaction from players. 500 loans cost $5.
Square Enix reportedly added these packs to the game store immediately after they were added to Marvel’s Avengers Game Pass.
Marvel’s Avengers cast worried about progress
The cast of Marvel’s Avengers, which is already played by few, claimed the change contradicted Square Enix’s earlier remarks. Because Square Enix said in 2019 that no rewards boxes or “Pay To Win” systems would be added to the game.
Some players who have commented on Marvel’s Avengers Steam page argue that paying for an item that will increase experience points will not lead to unfair competition, as Avengers is a one-man game. Because while players who buy these “boost” items in the store will level up much faster than others, they say that technically it will not affect anyone else.
Players who are uncomfortable with this change say that the main reason they are uncomfortable is that Square Enix “broke its promise”. There are even those who claim that Square Enix treats pre-orderers of the game as “beta testers” and directs its attention entirely to newcomers to Marvel’s Avengers.
Square Enix made changes in March of this year that slowed down the game’s level-up system, raising doubts that the game could be switched to the Free-To Play system. Well, the method of promoting “in-game in-store sales”, which is almost synonymous with Free-To Play games, has also started to be applied to the game. The Avengers-themed Square Enix game fell well short of expectations, and time will tell if this change can attract new players to the game.
