Tomb Raider‘s transformation in the new era still feels strange at times. Recreateing such a cult brand in every sense is naturally a painful process. Only if Lara Croft is determined to do something. As a matter of fact, the process that started with the games continues on the screen. The first Tomb Raider film starring Alicia Vikanderreceived some pretty bad reviews. The studio wanted to look for the remedy in a director’s change, and the process began. Ben Wheatley was mentioned in the first place, but the project didn’t come to life, and about a year ago, Misha Green took over the film.
Alicia Vikander is one of the most happy names for the newdirector. “I was so excited when the studio came to me and said they wanted to make a sequel,” Vikander told Total Film. Misha talking about me and what she did in Lovecraft Country was really impressive. It was a pleasure to sit next to a woman my own age while talking to Misha over Zoom. We talked a lot about the big action scenes and arrangements we wanted to do in the movie. I hope we can work things out together and make a good movie.” Said.
Game films have already managed to gain notoriety for their failures. The first Tomb Raider film did not perform to break this premise. But the studio’s transfer of all creative responsibility to Misha Green is a slightly more promising development for the sequel. There’s still time to get excited about Tomb Raider 2, which doesn’t yet have a release date, but where Lara Croft is, hope doesn’t end.
