Amnesia: Rebirthis actually doing pretty well with sales, despite its unfortunate release date. In a blog post, developer Frictional Games touches on both the game’s sales and some of the discussions between players. Amnesia: Rebirth sales and discussion topics
In his blog post, thedeveloper points to October 20, the launch date, as the game’s best-selling day. Meanwhile, the game topped Steam’s bestseller list and managed to stay there for a few days. The game, which approached SOMA in terms of sales, was not able to sustain this success much because it came out at an unfortunate time. With the release of games such as Assassin’s Creed Valhallaand Cyberpunk 2077, sales have fallen considerably. Earlier this year, sales were also below SOMA’s sales in 2016, the developer said, adding that it is now recovering and on the same trajectory as SOMA.
Frictional Games says it is optimistic about the game’s sales and future. He also says he wants to give some answers to online discussions. The bottom paragraph may contain some SPOILER content for the story.
It seems some of the players aren’t too keen on having a pregnancy in play. The developer said in a statement that the interaction requires “the player to form a strong bond with their unborn baby by the end.” They wanted the game to feel “like a helper, not a burden.” The main character, Tasi, talking to the baby and what he said was constantly changing according to where he was in the game. Their goal was to catch the player in the last quarter of the game, creating an emotional atmosphere.
They said, “As expected, playing as a pregnant woman and caring for your unborn baby didn’t resonate with everyone. Although we knew this was going to happen, we probably underestimated that the aspect of pregnancy would be big enough for some people to completely eclipse the rest of the game.”
In our review of Anmesia: Rebirth, we mentioned the game by saying, “If you’re looking for a horror game and you’re not throwing things at the screen, and you’re saying, “Let him scare me like a young man,” I can recommend it for you with peace of mind.” If you’re good with horror games, you can read our review and give the game a chance.
