One of the games shown in last week’s State of Play was Returnal; It was announced that an expansion pack called Ascension would be coming, a new co-op mode would be added to the game, and a new episode called Tower of Sisyphus was waiting for us. Here’s a gameplay video from this new mode:

Both the video and the playstation blog post, signed by the game’s director Harry Krueger, provide gamers with information about what experience awaits in this expansion pack.

In fact, the name of the tower is, in a sense, an explanatory part of the game mode. In Greek Mythology, Sisyphos is a king condemned to carry a rock to the top of a steep hill. But it’s an impossible task; Because every time Sisyphos approaches the summit, the stone rolls down, and Sisyphos tries again. This becomes an ongoing cycle. Tower of Sisyphus also comes across as returnal’s ‘endless’ mode, and I think it’s a good match for this mythological story, don’t you think?
