Paramount and Nickelodeon have announced a new Avatar animated film trilogy set in the Avatar universe. These animations are being produced by Nickelodeon Animation’s Avatar Studios studio, which was set up in 2021 to produce original content set in the universe created by 2005’s Avatar: The Last Airbender and 2012’s The Legend of Korra.
The creators of the series were not involved in Netflix’s live-action adaptation due to “creative differences”. But this time Bryan Konietzko and Michael DiMartino are among the producers of this trilogy, along with Eric Coleman.
The as-yet-untitled film will be directed by Lauren Montgomery, who served as storyboard illustrator and producer on Avatar and The Legend of Korra.
It is unclear which period the films will be about, after all, Avatar: The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra were also set in different periods.
